Reaching New Heights at #APMP2019

Certification Day saw record numbers of attendees looking to boost their bid and proposal skills

APMP provides the industry’s only recognized certification program for bid and proposal professionals. Each year at BPC, the association’s annual conference, APMP offers a breadth of industry education, training, and certifications—covering all levels of experience and aptitude to exponentially grow the profession beyond the status quo.

APMP Certification continues to lead the educational element at the conference.“Today just over 250 professionals were certified for having learned best practices and are now in a position to help their companies work more efficiently and win more,” said Rick Harris, CF APMP, CEO of APMP.

Certification Day of #APMP2019 brought several sessions to the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando, Florida. Attendees were offered several opportunities to grow their knowledge and raise their credibility—from Foundation-level classes and exams to Practitioner- and Professional-level certification primers and completion sessions. The value of these sessions was, as it is at each APMP event, demonstrated through the overall attendance: 265.

APMP Fellow and Chief Examiner Cathy Day, led the Practitioner-level Completion group Monday morning. “It’s impressive how many people we have in one place, at this conference, working toward their certifications,” she said. “We’re seeing people in numbers like never before—around 85 in practitioner courses, 125 in three foundation courses today.”

For some of those hundreds who come from companies that may not have a truly structured proposal process, these certifications offer actionable takeaways. “I come from a company where putting together proposals wasn’t always the most structured process,” said Michael Jumper, proposal strategist at Burns & McDonnell, who participated in a Foundation-level Classes/Exam session. “These certifications give me a real foundation to work upon—a proven structure. And the courses are incredibly helpful.”

Through the afternoon, certification sessions continued to draw astounding attendance. Included in the afternoon sessions was the first Practitioner-level OTE Primer, with around 30 attendees. To round out the certifications on Monday, some 20 conference-goers participated in the Professional-level Primer to become even more seasoned and more highly accredited.

Melinda Antonious, CPP APMP, proposal manager at Cubic Global Defense, just completed her Professional-level certification May 14. As for the impact of APMP certifications and these BPC sessions, she puts it clearly: “It’s important because it demonstrates my confidence and reinforces my proficiency in leading teams using a continuous improvement mindset, purposeful communication and thinking strategies, and global proposal best practice standards to help enable and empower teams to create compelling and compliant proposal solutions that win business.”
