APMP Board Update: Bruce Farrell to Return to the International Board in January

APMP is pleased to announce that long-standing APMP member and Fellow Bruce Farrell will be returning to the APMP HQ Board of Directors in 2025.

In 2020, Mr Farrell had only just begun his term as an elected Board Director when he sustained a life-threatening traumatic brain injury in a cycling accident which left him in a coma.

In recognition of the unprecedented circumstances, the sitting board at the time of Mr Farrell’s accident voted to allow him a path back to the Board if and when he felt well enough to do so.

After four years of recovery and rehabilitation, Mr Farrell has decided he is ready to return to the Board. The current sitting Board will honor its predecessor’s motion, and appoint Mr Farrell to serve through the 2025-2027 term.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be able to welcome Bruce Farrell back to the Board to continue the service that was so devastatingly cut short in 2020,” said Board Chair David Gray. “It is a testament to Bruce’s talents and qualities as a director that the former Board passed a motion to allow him to continue service following his rehabilitation.”

Mr Farrell has remained committed to the bid and proposal profession throughout his recovery. The continuation of his Board term follows his recent return to APMP speaking engagements.

“Bruce has shown the bid and proposal community that he is still highly passionate about our profession and about APMP,” said Mr Gray. “This was demonstrated by his return to BPC in Orlando in 2023 and New Orleans in 2024, where his sessions were hugely popular and well-received.”

Mr Farrell fills the available position on the Board vacated by this year’s only departing Director.

As such, there will be no elections for the Board of Directors this year.

“With only one serving Board member outside the Executive Committee due to roll-off the Board this year, there is no requirement for Board of Director elections for 2025,” explained Mr Gray. “Bruce will continue his service in the one vacant seat that becomes available at the end of 2024.”

Mr Gray called the lack of board elections this year a “unique situation due to unprecedented circumstances”.

Vice Chair elections will still take place

In January, current Vice Chair Stacey Lee will take over the Chair position from David Gray (who succeeds Alison Coon as Past Chair).

This leaves the Vice Chair role up for election for 2025, and current and former HQ Board Directors are now invited to self-nominate. The elected individual will serve as Vice Chair next year, Chair in 2026, and Past Chair in 2027.

Those who are eligible to self-nominate may signal their intention to run by emailing rick.harris@apmp.org or david.gray@apmp.org before Wednesday 25 September 2024 at 5:00pm EST (USA).

The 2025 Board and beyond

APMP continues to have the largest Board in its history into 2025, with 19 serving Directors.

International Board elections will return next year, when five to seven Directors will be elected to replace the six Directors who roll off the Board at the close of 2025.

Mr Gray added: “I hope our members will join me in warmly congratulating Bruce on his continued rehabilitation, recovery and full return to APMP Board service.”

APMP is delighted to wish Bruce Farrell a warm ‘welcome back’ to the Board.
